Former Black Stars midfielder, Mohamed Rabiu, has expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s ability to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing the team’s growing cohesion and emerging talents.

In an exclusive interview, Rabiu, who was part of Ghana’s squad for the 2014 World Cup, praised the current generation of players and their commitment to restoring the nation’s footballing pride. He believes the Black Stars have what it takes to overcome their qualification hurdles and make a return to the world’s biggest football stage.

Ghana is currently in the thick of the African qualifiers, battling against tough opponents for a place in the expanded 48-team tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. With an improved qualification format, African nations now have increased chances of making it to the finals, and Rabiu is optimistic Ghana will capitalize on this opportunity.

“The Black Stars have always been a force in African football, and I have no doubt they will qualify for the World Cup,” Rabiu stated. “We have a young and talented squad, mixed with experienced players, and with the right tactics, Ghana will be in North America in 2026.”

Rabiu highlighted the impact of Ghana’s emerging stars, including Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, and Kamaldeen Sulemana, who have been instrumental in the national team’s recent performances. He also emphasized the importance of strong leadership from senior players such as captain Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew, who continue to provide invaluable guidance to the team.

“Our young players have the skill, energy, and hunger to succeed. They are playing in top leagues, gaining experience, and growing in confidence. That blend of youth and experience is key,” he added.

The former defensive midfielder also stressed the importance of tactical discipline and effective coaching in securing qualification. Under the guidance of head coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars have been refining their strategies to ensure they remain competitive against Africa’s best teams.

“If the coaching staff gets the tactics right and the players stay focused, Ghana will qualify,” Rabiu affirmed. “We have learned from past mistakes, and I trust the team to deliver.”

Ghana has a rich history in the FIFA World Cup, making its debut in 2006 and reaching the quarter-finals in 2010, where they famously came close to becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals. After missing out on the 2018 edition, the Black Stars returned in 2022 but failed to progress past the group stage. Rabiu believes a 2026 qualification would offer redemption and a chance to showcase Ghana’s footballing excellence.

With crucial qualification matches ahead, Ghanaian fans remain hopeful that the team will rise to the occasion. Rabiu’s endorsement adds to the growing belief that the Black Stars are on the right path to securing another World Cup appearance.

As the qualification campaign continues, all eyes will be on the Black Stars to see if they can turn potential into reality and book their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
