The National Secretary of Netball Federation of Ghana, Ernest Dankyi, has urged the National Sports Authority, as a matter of urgency, to allocate funds to them in order to move to the next level.

“We have been trying to do our best to bring the game up but when it gets to the point that we have to travel for an international tournament, the regular responses in ‘No money,'” he said.

He explained that there have been several occasions they have gone for camp for weeks to prepare them for the international tournament, but in the end, they are turned down.

Eugene Tetteh, Deputy Director of Technical Affairs of Netball Federation of Ghana, is also appealing to the government and the sports authority to build a national netball pitch for the country.

This, he said, would promote the sport and make it attractive for investors.

Eugene explained that netball is a female dominated sports which, when given the needed attention, can take lots of girls off the streets, train them, and help reduce unemployment and poverty.

He stressed that after getting the girls to train and prepare them, they don’t get the opportunity to play international tournaments, and that gets them disappointed.

He added that with such disappointments, getting these girls again becomes difficult because they see no future in the sport.

He recalled how, in December 2024, the federation missed another opportunity for a tournament in Namibia because the NSA could not fund it.

Dankyi added that they have submitted their yearly program, and are awaiting the NSA, with the hope that this year will be more successful for them.

Meanwhile, netball is played at the basic, secondary, and tertiary levels.
