Ashanti Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Services, Fred Adomako Boateng
The Ashanti Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Services (GHS), Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, has advised expectant mothers to deliver at health facilities to prevent Maternal Mortality rate in the region.
He emphasized that these facilities are better equipped to handle complications associated with birth delivery, thereby reducing the risk of maternal deaths.
Dr. Adomako Boateng’s appeal is aimed at encouraging pregnant women to seek medical attention at health facilities, rather than delivering at home or in unapproved settings.
This is in a bid to curb the alarming rate of maternal deaths in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Region has recorded a staggering 889 maternal deaths over the past five years, highlighting the need for urgent action.
Dr. Adomako Boateng’s advice is crucial to improving maternal health outcomes in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking in an interview on Otec FM’s morning show, “Nyansapo,” hosted by Isaac Osei Akoto on Friday, March 14, 2025, Dr. Adomako Boateng noted that health facilities are the safest place to deliver.
“By delivering at health facilities, expectant mothers can access timely medical interventions, reducing the risk of complications and deaths,” he stated.
“When you are pregnant, the safest place to deliver is the health facilities. When any labour complications need surgery, you can’t do that outside hospitals, except only at the hospitals. It means that hospital delivery is the most important thing that you can look at when you want to address maternal mortality,” he assured.
