Jude Bellingham furiously berated Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Jr before having a bottle thrown at him during their side’s wild Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid.

The Madrid rivals met in the second-leg of their last 16 clash on Wednesday night with Los Blancos progressing to the quarter-finals where they will meet Arsenal.

Real edged past their neighbors in what was a highly contentious penalty shoot-out that saw Julian Alvarez’s spot kick ruled out before Antonio Ruidger stepped up to score the winner.

Bellingham was one of those to step and convert his penalty, holding his nerve and drilling into the bottom right corner.

After victory was sealed, Real players wildly celebrated on the pitch in front of fuming home supporters who threw items down from the stands aimed at the away team.

Spotting a bottle coming down, Bellingham leapt up to head it away and swiftly resumed the party with his teammates.

Vinicius Jr meanwhile had a night to forget during the game at the Wanda Metropolitano, missing would could have been a match-winning penalty in the 70th minute, blasting a wild effort clear over the bar after Kylian Mbappe was brought down.

The Brazilian did not get his chance to make up for it in the shoot-out, replaced by Endrick midway through the second period of extra-time.

Towards the end of the first period of extra-time, Vinicius went down rather too easily under pressure from Atletico’s Nahuel Molina near the edge of his own box with his appeals for a free kick immediately turned away.

With play waved on, Bellingham was forced to race back and prevent Antoine Griezmann from bursting forward, winning the ball back on the half way line with an fine tackle.

The England international immediately began pounding turf, turning around to scream at his teammate who threw his arms in the air in response.

Vinicius returned to the pitch for the on-field celebrations and took great joy in reminding Atletico supporters of Real’s dominance in Europe.

The 24-year-old was seen removing his training jacket in front of home fans, laying it down on the Wanda Metropolitano turf and repeatedly pointing at the Real badge before walking away.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone was left exasperated with the decision to disallow Alvarez’s penalty meanwhile, with his Real counterpart Carlo Ancelotti believing the correct decision had been made.

‘Football… It’s very strange,’ Ancelotti said.

‘He touches it, he takes two touches because he shoots with his right foot and touches with his left foot. It’s a lottery.

‘I think they’d already detected it. By the time we realized this doubt, they’d already detected it from the VAR. I didn’t realize this.

‘I saw it, and it seems to me he’s playing with his left foot on the second touch.’
