Asantehene Reinstates Destooled Queen of Mpasaaso No.2 Following Chief’s Removal

Share

The Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, has reinstated the destooled Queen of Mpasaaso No. 2, years after her removal by the town’s now-destooled chief, Nana Amofa Twumasi II. The decision comes in the wake of Nana Twumasi’s destoolment for perjury during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting, a move that has restored the Queen’s position after a long-standing vacancy in the female stool of Mpasaaso No. 2.

The Queen was originally deposed during the reign of the late Asantehene, Opoku Ware II, under controversial circumstances. Nana Twumasi had accused her of gross insubordination and disrespect. He claimed that despite his efforts to install a new queen, his attempts were thwarted after a young man invoked the Great Oath against him, resulting in the vacancy that lasted for years.

However, Otumfour Osei Tutu II offered a different perspective on the issue. He explained that the Queen’s removal was rooted in her questioning Nana Twumasi’s legitimacy, as he was not a royal by birth. The Asantehene stated that the Queen’s concerns were valid, particularly after Nana Twumasi was found guilty of perjury. This revelation led to the reinstatement of the Queen to her rightful position.

With her return to power, Otumfour Osei Tutu II has tasked the reinstated Queen with ensuring that the traditional processes for selecting a new male chief for Mpasaaso No. 2 are properly followed. This marks an important step in the restoration of traditional leadership in the town, following years of dispute and uncertainty.

The decision to reinstate the Queen has been welcomed by many, as it brings clarity and closure to the long-standing issue surrounding the leadership of Mpasaaso No. 2. It also highlights the Asantehene’s commitment to upholding traditional norms and values, ensuring that chieftaincy affairs are conducted with integrity and in line with established customs.
