Manchester United have offered Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli in part exchange for Victor Osimhen, according to journalist Luca Cerchione.
There have been reports circling that the Dane and/or Alejandro Garnacho could be used in some sort of swap deal and Cerchione claims such discussions have taken place:
“Keep an eye on the Rasmus Hojlund trail, which was reported to me last week. United have proposed Hojlund to Napoli as part of the deal that could bring Victor Osimhen to Manchester United.”
“In order for Osimhen’s price tag to drop, they will also talk about Hojlund, who Conte likes a lot. We’ll see, we’ll follow this lead… €40m, plus Hojlund, would be a deal in favour of Napoli.”
United will have to get creative in the transfer market
As Sir Jim Ratcliffe revealed in interviews earlier this week, the Red Devils are not in a position financially to spend huge amounts on new signings. The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules could hamper their efforts even further.
Head coach Ruben Amorim has publicly stated that sales will be required to fund the planned squad rebuild, but swap deals could be another solution. If Napoli are interested in Hojlund, it does make such an exchange for Osimhen possible.
Hojlund is worth more than £30m
Cerchione seems to be suggesting that a bid of €40m (£33m) plus the United striker would be attractive to Napoli, but considering Osimhen’s release clause is worth €75m (£63m), that would value Hojlund at around €35m (£30m).
When you take into account that the Denmark international cost £72m, that would be a serious downgrade in his value in just two years. Of course, United may have to bite the bullet if they want to land Osimhen. The Nigerian’s record of 137 goals in 252 senior games makes him an attractive target, especially for a team like the Red Devils who have struggled to find the back of the net in recent seasons, and they may have to move fast to secure his services, with Chelsea and others also interested in the forward.
