The former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against operatives from the National Security for trespassing on his property.

Ofori-Atta filed a lawsuit against two senior police operatives from the agency, DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah, for allegedly trespassing on private property and violating his right to privacy.

The writ, filed at the High Court, argues that the raid violated the privacy of the occupants of the residence, noting that the operatives who stormed the house did not present a warrant authorizing them to conduct the search.

According to the statement of claim, Ofori-Atta was out of the country for medical treatment at the time of the incident.

His domestic staff reported that a team of 12 individuals including the two defendants, nine military personnel armed with assault rifles, and several plainclothes officers entered the property without prior notice or consent.

The operatives are also reported to have searched other areas of the premises, including bedrooms, the kitchen, and closets.

The former minister claims that the actions of the defendants and their team were unlawful, violating his privacy and property rights.

According to him, the raid, which attracted national and international attention, subjected him to public ridicule and tarnished his reputation.

Ofori-Atta noted that all efforts to reach the National Intelligence Bureau, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Inspector General of Police for clarification on the raid’s legitimacy have proven futile.

He is seeking damages for the distress and losses incurred, as well as a court order restraining the defendants from further interference with his property and privacy rights.

Additionally, he is demanding compensation for what he describes as unlawful actions.
