Curtis Jones has sent an emotional message after missing a penalty during Liverpool’s penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds were beaten on spot-kicks by the French club in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 showdown at Anfield.
Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the second leg on Tuesday night, to cancel out Harvey Elliott’s strike in Paris last week. The tie finished 1-1 on aggregate after extra time, forcing a penalty shootout to decide which team progressed into the quarter-finals.
Mohamed Salah scored the opening penalty for Liverpool, but Jones and Darwin Nunez missed from the spot to see the Reds lose the shootout 4-1 to PSG. Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue all converted their spot-kicks for the visitors, who will now face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the next round.

Jones was named on the subs bench by Arne Slot for the return clash against PSG before being introduced at the start of extra time as he replaced Alexis Mac Allister. The Liverpool midfielder has now fired a message for the first time since his miss from the penalty spot, outlining his determination to bounce back from the defeat.
“Stepping up and trying to help the team in every moment I can is the type of person that I am,” wrote Jones on Instagram. “This comes with risk and failing, last night I got a taste of that!
“I can live with missing but I can’t live without taking the responsibility. 10 to go. Starting with a cup final Sunday!”
Liverpool will now prepare to play Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final this weekend, in their final game before March’s international break. It will also be an chance for Slot to win his first major trophy since replacing Jurgen Klopp as Reds’ head coach.
