Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold were spotted in a tense moment during training ahead of Liverpool’s crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against PSG at Anfield.
The Egyptian playfully shoved Alexander-Arnold in the chest, all while sporting a broad smile on his face. Ibrahima Konate and Curtis Jones intervened to hold back Salah, albeit in a light-hearted manner. Harvey Elliott then stepped in as the pair confronted each other again, with Konate guiding Alexander-Arnold away.
While Salah seemed to be enjoying the incident, the England defender appeared more agitated as they prepared for the Ligue 1 leaders alongside other Liverpool stars.
Both players’ contracts are set to expire at the end of this season, along with club captain Virgil van Dijk, who seemed unfazed by the incident as he walked past. The Reds are having an exceptional first season under Arne Slot.
They have a 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League over closest rivals Arsenal after coming from behind to defeat Southampton on Saturday. Arsenal could only manage a draw at Old Trafford, widening the gap at the top of the table.
Focus now shifts to the Champions League, with Slot’s team holding a 1-0 advantage over PSG going into the second leg.
Despite having only two shots at goal in the Parc des Princes compared to PSG’s staggering 27, Harvey Elliott’s single strike snagged a win and secured a first-leg edge for his team.
Slot remained grounded before the clash, saying: “I think after this game, still a long way to the final. We know we can play Villa/Brugge and then maybe Arsenal and one of the Madrid teams.”
He added, “We are all good enough to reach the final, so difficult to say. PSG have a game of football to lose and us as well, so I do think both, at this stage, have been here.”
Reflecting on past performance, he noted, “We were not even in this stage and this was the round we were knocked out [two years ago]. Usually these teams go far in this tournament.”
