Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has for the first time revealed his deep regret over missing a penalty in the 2010 World Cup final.
Speaking in an interview, Gyan said the moment feels him with deep regret as he let down his country and the entire continent of Africa that was cheering him on.
Gyan revealed how he missed the penalty, admitting that the technique he had planned in using to hit the ball was not actually what ended up happening.
He added that the day before the game, he had practiced 20 penalties in training and scored all of them. Therefore, he was feeling very confident about scoring but the keeper’s movements confused him and ended up making him hit the shot with bad technique.

Asamoah Gyan became enemy no.1 in Ghana during the 2010 World Cup after he missed a last minute penalty which would have sent Ghana through to the World Cup final as the first ever African nation to do so.
The penalty occurred after Luis Suarez’s infamous handball on the line stopped Ghana from scoring.
In the years following the penalty loss, Gyan’s relationship with Ghanaian football fans became bitter.
However, his recent interview expressing a bit of remorse over what happened has led to some Ghanaians showing more understanding towards him and the events of that fateful day.
