The government held a National Economic Dialogue on March 3 and 4, 2025, which brought together top economic experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and other experts from various fields to brainstorm and share ideas on how the economy can be put back on a sound footing and witness growth.

Many people have lauded the government for carrying out such a programme, and the latest to speak on it is the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor.

According to him, the government decided to hold the event to get a better understanding from these experts the extent to which the economy had been in shambles, as well as to propose strategic, long-lasting solutions to resolving the problem.

He said the sharing of wisdom and knowledge is the best way to go, rather than relying on one’s ability to tackle an issue.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints, Dr Peter Otokunor said, “We needed to understand the situation that we are in. We started calling for this National Economic Dialogue. They (previous government) laughed at us that we lack ideas that’s why we are calling for it. They said the same thing when we were going to Senchi [Royal Senchi Hotel]. What they fail to understand is that wisdom does not lie in one man’s head.”

He added, “If you want to go far, you go together, but if you want to go fast, you go alone. But you are likely to break down along the way.”

The National Economic Dialogue focused on macroeconomic stability, economic transformation, infrastructure development, structural reforms, private sector growth, and governance.

President John Dramani Mahama was the guest of honour at the event and spoke on the theme, “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.”
