The 9th parliament of the republic of Ghana has established its new committee to see to the implementation of government’s initiatives. The seventeen-member committee comprises of seasoned parliamentarians and new members of parliament.
Hon Peter Nortsu Kotoe, MP for Akatsi North is now the Chairman of the Education Select Committee of Parliament, having served as Ranking Member while in opposition.
Hon. Kumah, MP for Kintampo North is now Vice Chairman, having served as member while in opposition.
We worked closely with Hon. Nortsu, his deputy Ranking Member-Hon. Clement Apaak, and Hon. Kumah to strengthening parliamentary oversight on the Ministry of Education and agencies.
We hope to continue working with them to influence policies and budgets, strengthen legislative oversight on the Ministry of Education.
Former education minister, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is now the Ranking Member for the Education Select Committee of Parliament.
He brings to the Committee the experience of a former Minister for Education. While he was Minister, we had a very smooth working relationship built on mutual respect and appreciation of plural opinions.
We look forward to working together with Hon. Adutwum as Ranking to strengthen parliamentary oversight on the Ministry of Education and agencies.
Hon. Adutwum reminds me of Hon. Fobih. In 2009, Hon. Fobih became Ranking after serving as Minister for Education under President Kufuor.
We worked together with him to demand accountability from the new government, having done same to him while being Minister.
As i keep saying, apart from Civil Society, no role is permanent in a democracy. One script; different actors.
Congratulations and best wishes to the new leadership.
