Media personality Nana Romeo has stated that, unlike the usual excitement surrounding Ghana’s Independence Day, he is indifferent about it.

In a discussion on United Showbiz on March 8, 2025, Nana Romeo noted that the Independence Day celebration is not worth celebrating because there is nothing that proves the country is truly independent.

He emphasised that the ideology that Ghana is an independent country only exists on paper and not in reality.

“I am one of the few people who do not believe in independent celebration. I don’t think we are independent because Ghana even imports toothpicks into the country. I also think that when it is the 6th of March, there is no need to parade ourselves because it is needless.

“We have all the natural resources in the country yet we don’t have good roads and streetlights. We are one of the most highly indebted countries in the world yet we claim we are independent. The independence is only in the book but in reality, that is not the case,” he said.

Citing the leadership of Burkina Faso’s head of state, Nana Romeo applauded the military leader for his transformative ideas in developing the country.

“If you go to Burkina Faso, the person leading the country is not a politician but a military leader, yet is one of the most transformative leaders in Africa. He has decided to change the narrative where students used to wear materials from abroad to locally printed materials.

“This is a leader who is independent and doesn’t depend on any white man. Again, this whole thing is on paper and not in reality,” he added.
