WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite a lackluster first-half performance, where Southampton shocked the home side with a lead from Will Smallbone, Liverpool roared back after the break, thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Salah. The Egyptian’s first penalty saw him move ahead of Gordon Hodgson in Liverpool’s all-time goalscorer list, positioning him as the club’s third-highest scorer of all time.

Salah is tied with the highest number of goal contributions in a Premier League season, with a combined total of 44 goals and assists this term. This equals the record set by Thierry Henry during the 2002/03 season and Erling Haaland in 2022/23. However, Alan Shearer and Andy Cole still hold the record for the most goal contributions in a single Premier League campaign, having each recorded 47 in the era of 42-game seasons.

Salah’s 184 Premier League goals also moved him to joint-fifth place on the league’s all-time goalscorer list alongside Sergio Aguero. However, he is still far off the Premier League record held by Alan Shearer with 260 strikes.
