Liverpool fans will be hoping to see their club be a little more active in the transfer market during the summer of 2025.

As far as windows go, the Reds have done barely anything at all during each of the last three.

Of those, the summer of 2024 was easily the biggest disappointment. Having seen Arne Slot arrive as the new Liverpool head coach, signings had been expected.

However, Liverpool chose only to add Federico Chiesa, potentially leaving themselves short on a title challenge once again.

As things have turned out, that has not been the case. The Reds have shown themselves to be fully capable of challenging on all fronts.

Nevertheless, as it turns out, Liverpool did actually try and make a big signing ahead of the 2024/25 campaign; none other than PSG superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Liverpool pushed for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia arrangement

Having become unsettled during contract talks with Napoli, Kvaratskhelia left the Italian club to join PSG last January.

Liverpool were linked with a move for Kvaratskhelia at the time, but in the end he moved to Paris.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, though, the Reds had actually tried to sign the 24-year-old last summer, before leaving him at Napoli for the season.

“Last summer, Liverpool tried to snatch Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli,” says Di Marzio.

“In the final days of the summer transfer window, the Reds put a monstrous offer on the table: around 100 million euros to buy the Georgian.

“The English club, however, had the intention of leaving the 2001-born player on loan to Napoli for a year. The Azzurri did not consider the solution and decided to refuse the rich offer.”

Kvaratskhelia shows Liverpool what they’re missing

Liverpool’s idea to sign Kvaratskhelia and loan him back to Napoli for the year was not necessarily a bad one.

Just as they did with his Georgia international teammate Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Reds could have then welcomed Kvaratskhelia to the Liverpool squad in 2025.

However, you can’t help but wonder if the Reds had gone in full throttle and simply put the money down to sign the flying winger straight away, they’d have signed him there and then.

And as Kvaratskhelia showed against the Reds on Wednesday night, that might have been the best solution.

The former Napoli man was a constant threat in the Champions League and only the offside flag and an inspired Alisson Becker denied him a goal. With Luis Diaz looking impotent going the other way, this should be one Liverpool regret not getting done.
