La Liga denounces racist insults against Vinicius in Anoeta

LaLiga confirmed on Thursday that it has reported to the Ertzaintza those responsible for the insults and racist gestures against Real Madrid’s Brazilian player Vinicius Junior during the Copa del Rey semi-final match between Real Sociedad and Real Madrid on 26 February.

La Liga’s criminal complaint has been formalised after gathering the necessary evidence to prove the existence of racist insults and the authorship of the same, through the location and analysis of the images and the performance of lip-reading expertise.

“La Liga continues in this way, firm in its determination to eradicate any manifestation of hatred from the environment of our football,” the body said.

The Real Sociedad-Real Madrid match (0-1) was stopped by referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martínez in the 46th minute when Vinicius, as Madrid captain, told him that his team-mate Raul Asencio was being insulted by the home crowd, so the protocol was activated and play was resumed after a message was broadcast over the loudspeaker to stop the insults.
