The former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has shared the reasons for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ‘s absence and non-participation in the ongoing National Economic Dialogue organised by the government.
Addressing lingering questions on the minds of many Ghanaians regarding their absence, Nana Akomea explained that the NPP saw no reason to participate in the two-day National Economic Dialogue when the same government had previously accused the party of mismanaging the economy.
The party stalwart was of the view that a party accused of mismanaging the economy has no great ideas to offer and cannot provide solutions on how to resolve the issues facing the country.
He stated that the government erred in leveling such grievous accusations against their party.
“When you listen to President Mahama and the Minister of Finance, they blamed the economic mess on the NPP, accusing us of mismanaging it. So, how do you expect us, whom you’ve accused of mismanaging the economy, to come and engage in discussions about the same economy?
“President Mahama even went further to accuse us of criminally handling the economy. So, what ideas do you expect us to bring to the table when you accuse us in this manner? That’s my concern.
“The fact that you level such serious allegations against us and then expect us to engage and deliberate with you just isn’t right,” he made this known on Peace FM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The NPP’s absence from the National Economic Dialogue has sparked criticism and backlash from several personalities.
The two-day dialogue led by President John Dramani Mahama aims to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges and chart a course for sustainable growth under the theme “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.”
The dialogue further seeks to engage all stakeholders in an inclusive discussion on economic policies and reforms.
