Renowned legal practitioner and broadcaster, Samson Lardy Anyenini, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama over his appointment of the Member of Parliament (MP) of Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, to the Board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Speaking at the Constitutional Day Lecture organised by the One Ghana Movement on February 28, 2025, Samson Lardy said the appointment of MPs to boards of state institutions is wrong.

He said that legislators are to hold boards of state institutions in check, and so if they become part of these boards, it would not allow them to perform their duties effectively.

“It is wrong for parliamentarians to be appointed to public boards because they are overseeing those institutions. When you make them board members, how do they oversee that institution?

“Just two days ago, the president appointed Isaac Adongo to the Bank of Ghana board. If the Bank of Ghana does wrong, he’s supposed to oversee them. How is he going to do it? So, this is the problem,” he stated.

The broadcaster made these remarks while refuting an assertion by the Minority Leader and MP of Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, that politicians alone cannot be blamed for the level of corruption in Ghana.

He insisted that politicians are responsible for the level of corruption in the country.

“Corruption in Ghana is so endemic, it’s so bad. And we have to point at politicians because that’s where the grand corruption is. And I like to use this example, and it’s real, that a school is built, and it’s supposed to have been built for how many millions? A little rain, storm, wind, it’s gone and pupils may die.

“A politician has pocketed the money. The road is done, and they tell you just a kilometre costs how much? The rains come, and the road is washed away. It happens only here; it won’t happen anywhere else. So, the people who drive that kind of corruption are the politicians,” he said.
