Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are currently gathered at the main entrance of Ghana’s Parliament in protest.

The group, consisting of party members from the Korle Klottey Constituency and the Volta Diaspora Caucus, is demonstrating to demand action over unsavory comments made against the MP for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, in the chamber of the House.

Clad in red attire, the group’s action follows an earlier petition submitted to Parliament on February 5, 2025. The leaders of the protesters, including Madam Anita Desoso, who is the founder of the NDC Volta Diaspora Caucus, spent some time at the public gallery of Parliament during proceedings on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, to register their demands.

Speaking on the floor of the House, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, noted that Parliament is still in the process of investigating and taking action on the matter. The Speaker, in his remarks, emphasized his commitment to ensuring strict application of parliamentary rules to maintain decorum in the activities of the House.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, an unidentified member of the Minority side hurled a deeply derogatory remark at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, referring to her as the “daughter of a murderer” and ordering her to sit down during parliamentary proceedings. Another unknown MP, believed to be from the Minority side, followed up, claiming, “But there is evidence that her father killed people.”

The incident has attracted widespread public condemnation, with some NDC members demanding the identification and punishment of the yet-to-be identified MP behind the remark.
