The Communications Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned the team and Legon Cities from using the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for official football matches.
He explained that the GFA alluded to the fact that the stadium’s standards do not meet the newly instituted safety and security measures.
The communications director further highlighted the poor nature of the pitch and the safety zones where buses park, which are not up to the required standard.
Speaking in an interview with Happy FM, Opare Addo noted that due to the safety concerns with the stadium, they are compelled to look for alternative venues for GPL matches.
“Thursday evening, we received information that, per the enhanced safety and security measures, Legon Stadium does not meet the required standards, and as such, we cannot play there.
“The communication states that the pitch is undulating, and the safety and security zones, from where the buses park to the dressing rooms, are deemed not secure enough. Because of that, they have ruled the venue unavailable,” he said.
It will be recalled that, following the demise of staunch Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, well-known as Pooley, strict protocols are being implemented by the GFA to safeguard lives.
President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku, vowed to ensure that all match venues were in line with the enhanced safety protocols to prevent such misfortunes in the future.
