Kwesi Pratt , has sent a strong message to President John Dramani Mahama, questioning the direction of Ghana’s economy.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Pratt, who seemed very unhappy said that the ongoing National Economic Dialogue is not the real issue but rather the path Ghana is taking under Mahama’s leadership.
As you may already know, thr National Economic Dialoge which started today, is meant to bring experts together to discuss how to fix the economy. President Mahama, who opened the event, spoke about the need for unity and new strategies to improve the economy. But Kwesi Pratt is not convinced that discussions alone will solve Ghana’s problems. He believes Ghanaians are more concerned about whether the country will continue to rely on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or take a bold step towards economic independence.
In his post, Pratt reminded Ghanaians of the 5th Pan-African Congress in Manchester and Kwame Nkrumah’s Seven-Year Development Programme, both of which called for African nations to control their own resources for the benefit of their people. He argued that Ghana must stop depending on external forces and instead build a strong national economy that truly benefits the working class. He emphasized that the only way forward is to adopt a Pan-African socialist approach to development, ensuring that Ghanaian resources are used for the good of the people.
His comments have sparked discussions on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing frustration over the state of the economy. Some agree with Pratt that Ghana needs to move away from IMF policies, while others believe the government’s current approach is the best option for stabilizing the country. As the dialogue continues, many will be watching to see if the government listens to these concerns and makes changes to its economic strategy.
