A cross-section of the public in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, say they expect more from President John Dramani Mahama in fulfilling the Election 2024 campaign promises he made Ghanaians in the electioneering.

They said they were eager to see the President tackle economic challenges and thereby alleviate the plight of the ordinary citizenry.

Reacting to the State of the Nation’s address, delivered by the President in Parliament on Thursday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some residents said they had confidence in the President’s ability to transform the economic prospect of the nation.

Others also said the ‘reset’ Ghana agenda of the government required a collective approach, asking everybody to contribute their quota.

Promise Atitso, an entrepreneur, said he expected the President to tackle the economic ‘mess’ the nation is experiencing now for the private sector to flourish, highlighting the need for the nation to stabilise the economy, reduce taxes and import duties.

A commercial driver, Kwame Dabiasem, also praised the President for introducing short military training for National Service Personnel, saying the country needed such training to instil a sense of discipline in the contemporary generation.

Matilda Antwi, a student, said he was also hopeful that President Mahama would do more to make life bearable to the youth, lauding the efforts of the government to tackle corruption.

A trader, Mohammed Issah, also appreciated the SONA, saying the President’s forward-looking approach in addressing the country’s challenges was also laudable.

Other residents also told the GNA that the SONA captured their expectations, hoping to see President Mahama working to alleviate the plight of the people.
