Founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has questioned the relevance of the grand celebration of Ghana’s independent day, lamenting its cost.

Preaching to his congregation, Kofi Oduro called out the nation, urging citizens and leaders to take responsibility and ensure that Ghana moved away from the old ways.

“You (Ghana) are growing, be serious. You (Ghana) are no longer growing younger. This message belongs to Ghana. Stop misbehaving. I’m talking to the whole nation. Ghana will be 68 this year. You can’t go on in our madness, and our filth can’t continue,” he said.

Recalling Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebrations in 2024, the prophet condemned the budget for the event, questioning the benefits it brought.

“When I read the report that there would be no marching past at Independence Square this year, one of the reasons given was that GH₵15m was spent on marching last year. Spending GH₵15m on marching is unreasonable. Everyone should just stay home. What benefits have the people gained from marching?”

“Someone else would be marching in the scorching sun, but others would be reaping the benefits,” he told his congregation.

He, however, acknowledged President John Mahama’s initiative of suspending the nationwide Independence Day celebrations.

“So, this year, the celebrations would be held at the forecourt of the Jubilee House. No school child is invited, no police officers are invited. It is just a handful of men in uniform who would march at the cost of nothing,” he further added.
