On Saturday, 22nd February 2025, St. Mary’s Senior High School, affectionately known as Merries, held its 75th Speech and Prize-Giving Day in a grand and memorable event. The spectacular celebration showcased the school’s rich legacy, achievements, culture, and the strong bond among its students and alumni.

The day kicked off with a spirited cadet drill, followed by a soul-stirring hymn from the School Choir. The Headmistress, Ms. Philomena Owusu-Ansah, delivered an inspiring address, commending the students for their industriousness and dedication to academic excellence.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra also shared a powerful message about the importance of faith and education in shaping a bright future.

The celebration was nothing short of vibrant, featuring a stunning cultural display in which students dazzled the audience with traditional dances and music.

The highlight of the event, however, was the much-anticipated awards ceremony, where outstanding students were recognized for their excellence in academics, sports, and other extracurricular activities.

Among the standout moments was the recognition of the Overall Best Students: Esther Akushika Attivor, Adriana Anowa Otoo, and Keren-Happuch Sam. Their hard work and diligence earned them well-deserved accolades.

A special honor was also given to the best-performing students in the 2024 WASSCE. Each received certificates and a cash prize of ₵5,000, presented by SMOGAN Jean Adukwei Mensa, Esq.

Another major highlight was the unveiling of the Legacy Project: the newly refurbished Food and Nutrition Laboratory, a generous initiative spearheaded by the SMOGA 2000-year group. This project reflects the unbreakable sisterhood and unwavering commitment of St. Mary’s alumni to giving back to their alma mater.

SMOGAN Jean Mensa, in her keynote speech, urged the students to “strive for excellence in all that they do and carry St. Mary’s torch with pride.”

The festivities continued on Sunday, 23rd February 2025, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Holy Spirit Cathedral. It was a moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to upholding the school’s legacy of excellence.

Seventy-five years on, St. Mary’s Senior High School remains a beacon of academic excellence, unity, and tradition. It has proven why it is a trailblazer in Ghana’s educational landscape.

Here’s to 75 years of excellence, sisterhood, and shaping futures. As the school looks ahead, one thing is certain: the Merries girls are destined for even greater heights!

To everyone who played a part in making the 75th Speech & Prize-Giving Day and Thanksgiving Mass a resounding success—merci beaucoup! And for the SMOGANs who missed out, consider this your reminder to mark your calendars for next year’s grand celebration.
