Deputy Minister of Energy-designate Richard Gyan Mensah has reaffirmed the NDC administration’s commitment to resolving Ghana’s energy crisis, assuring Ghanaians that President John Dramani Mahama is determined to provide lasting solutions to the country’s power challenges.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament after the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, Richard Gyan Mensah accused the parliamentary minority of attempting to undermine the President’s efforts to end the power crisis also known as dumsor.

“President Mahama outlined the challenges he inherited and provided assurances of the steps he is taking to reset the country. I heard my colleagues make some remarks, particularly regarding dumsor. In my view, there was a deliberate plan by the NPP to ensure that President Mahama fails upon assuming office.

“I want to assure the people of Ghana that the new NDC administration is committed to making significant improvements for the benefit of all,” he told the media.

Richard Gyan Mensah, a second-term Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, however described the President’s SONA as the most impactful he has witnessed in Parliament.

“This is the fifth State of the Nation Address I have attended, and I can confidently say it is the most direct and impactful one ever delivered since I became a Member of Parliament,” he indicated.

Recently nominated by President John Mahama as Deputy Minister of Energy, Richard Gyan Mensah successfully underwent vetting on February 25, 2025, and is now awaiting his swearing-in to officially assume office.

Meanwhile, the NDC government has pledged to roll out long-term energy sector reforms aimed at ensuring a stable and reliable power supply, addressing the country’s persistent power crisis once and for all.
