Popular Ghanaian media personality Abena Moet has ignited a heated debate after questioning traditional gender roles in marriage.
Speaking as a panellist during a discussion on the roles of men and women in relationships on GhOne TV she challenged the expectation that wives must always cook and clean, regardless of their workload.
According to Abena Moet, marriage is a partnership where both individuals contribute in different ways. She acknowledged that while one partner may bring in financial stability, the other is expected to nurture the home. However, she argued that when both partners work long hours, there must be a compromise.
“How do you expect me to come back home after working for 12-15 hours to cook for you just because you are my husband? You will be home early but choose to sit on the couch watching TV while waiting for me to come and cook for you. Why? “ she questioned.
She further suggested practical solutions for couples juggling careers and household responsibilities. Instead of placing the burden on one person, she believes that couples should consider ordering food or hiring domestic help to lighten the workload.
Her statement has since sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some people have wondered if that is how she treats her husband at home especially as a career woman.
