Chelsea have been contacted about the option to sign midfielder who was once called ‘phenomenal’ by Jose Mourinho

Chelsea have been contacted to alert them to the possible availability of a high-profile midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window.

When you take a look at the Chelsea squad, the centre of the park may actually be their strongest position.

The Blues already have Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia as outstanding options in the central midfield area. Also, Andrey Santos is earmarked for Chelsea’s squad next season after a brilliant spell for the Blues loanee this year at Strasbourg.

Therefore, it’ll be a bit of a surprise to us if another marquee midfielder arrives at Stamford Bridge in 2025.

According to TBR Football, Joshua Kimmich still hasn’t agreed a new deal with Bayern Munich and the German giants have now withdrawn their offer.

Unless the 30-year-old midfielder agrees a new deal with Bayern, he will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season because his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

The report claims that Kimmich and his representatives have held discussions over his future with many foreign suitors. For instance, Chelsea and Arsenal have both been contacted about the 97-cap Germany international. Also, Manchester City have held talks about the Bundesliga star, plus Liverpool are long-term admirers.

Apparently, Real Madrid and Inter Milan are among the other clubs showing an interest in the player. Those close to Kimmich have refused to rule out more negotiations with Bayern about a contract extension, though.

Kimmich’s career and CV speaks for itself. For any top club, he would still be an incredible signing, especially on a free transfer.

RB Leipzig 55 3 4 0

If there’s one major thing missing from the Chelsea squad right now, it’s experience and leadership. Joe Cole insists Chelsea need more experience if they’re to be successful because the youngsters need more know-how around them.

That’s why Kimmich would be a crazy addition if they can pull it off.

The defensive midfielder, who’s extremely versatile and has excelled at right-back in his career, would be a phenomenal recruit for the Blues dressing room.

What Jose Mourinho once said about Joshua Kimmich

Kimmich has been a big name in the sport for a decade now and has received countless praise for a stellar career to date.

Chelsea fans may be interested to hear that Jose Mourinho, the former Blues manager, previously waxed lyrical about the Bayern star.

Back in 2020, Mourinho said via the Bundesliga’s website: “I see him (Kimmich) as a top right-back, left-back, centre-back, No.6, No.8, No.10… he has qualities to be anything. He’s intelligent and understands what he has to do here and what he has to do there. I think he’s phenomenal – absolutely phenomenal player.”

If Chelsea fans are sceptical about the idea of signing 30-year-old’s, they should recall that Blues legend Claude Makelele was aged 30 when he moved to West London.
