Arsenal are facing competition from League title favourites Liverpool for Frenkie de Jong, who was linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich earlier.

Placed second in Premier League, Arsenal are all set to spend a whopping £65 million for Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong and are looking to sign him in the summer, a report stated.
Arsenal are facing competition from League title favourites Liverpool for de Jong, who was linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich earlier.
Arsenal and Liverpool are all set to battle it out for de Jong, according to a report by TBR Football.
According to the report, de Jong’s long-term future in Barcelona is uncertain, and intermediaries are in touch with possible suitors to measure their interest in the Dutch national.
Not just Arsenal and Liverpool, but Chelsea, Manchester City and United have been contacted and informed of de Jong’s situation, with a view to a possible deal in the upcoming summer.
Although Barcelona insist that they still see de Jong as a crucial part of their team, he is no longer a first-choice midfielder with local lads Pedri, Gavi and Marc Casado getting starts ahead of him.
De Jong has been limited to only four La Liga starts under Hansi Flick in the ongoing season, and the report suggests that he is considering his options.
De Jong is one of the highest earners in Barcelona, making a deal tough but he is still just 27 years old. The report says that there is interest in England in luring him to the Premier League.
It can be a story of two La Liga stars in the upcoming summer as Premier League clubs are looking to strengthen their midfield. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and de Jong are both being linked with moves to top Premier League clubs.
De Jong is playing for a stronger side in Barcelona, so that might contribute to his numbers being a tad bit better in certain areas.
Zubimendi is a year younger than de Jong, and he might be the more economical choice, given the latter’s huge wages in Barcelona compared to his more modest pay package at Sociedad.
“When I signed for Barcelona, I didn’t imagine I’d have just one La Liga, one Copa del Rey and one Supercopa de España after four years. I expected at least double that, so it’s disappointing,” De Jong had told Voetbal earlier this year.
