President John Dramani Mahama has praised Parliament for the expeditious vetting and subsequent approval of his ministerial nominees.

Delivering the first State of the Nation’s Address of his second term on Thursday, February 27, 2025, President Mahama commended Parliament for acting swiftly in approving his ministers, noting that it is a record under the Fourth Republic.

“I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to Parliament for the prompt vetting and approval of my nominees for ministerial positions. This efficiency is unmatched in the history of the Fourth Republic,” he said

President Mahama stressed that all the branches of government must work hand in hand for the country to develop.

The president urged Parliament to show the same level of diligence and urgency in vetting and approving his deputy ministerial nominees so that the government can effectively implement his policies.

Parliament has approved all 42 substantive ministerial nominees of President Mahama.

The ministers were subsequently sworn into office and currently discharging their duties as ministers.

Meanwhile, the Appointments Committee of Parliament has since Monday, February 24, 2025 been vetting the deputy ministerial nominees.

The process which had been fairly smooth since Monday was marred by some controversy on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, as Minority Leader and Ranking Member of the committee Alexander Afenyo-Markin clashed with chairman of the committee Bernard Ahiafor over a question the former posed to the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate, Dr Justice Srem Sai.
