The Premier League title is moving closer and closer to Anfield after yet another good night for Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Reds’ lead at the top of the table has grown once again after a 2-0 win over Newcastle at Anfield, thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. The result ensured Arne Slot’s team made the most of another slip-up from Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s side being held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.
Those latest twists mean Liverpool’s lead in the title race now stands at 13 points, and although Arsenal does hold a game in hand, it does look to be turning into something of a procession for the Reds. They need 21 points from their final 10 league games in order to be guaranteed the championship, although chances are they won’t even need that many given the way their rivals are going.
Liverpool fans will no doubt be looking at the fixture list to see when they could wrap things up once and for all. A meeting with Arsenal in May at Anfield will no doubt have caught their eye, especially if it means the Gunners having to give their rivals a guard of honor.
There are still plenty of games to go before then – here is how the next five Premier League fixtures look for both sides.
Liverpool
- March 8: Southampton (H)
- April 2: Everton (H)
- April 5: Fulham (A)
- April 12: West Ham (H)
- April 19: Leicester (A)
Having just played five games in 15 days, Liverpool now has the odd quirk of playing only one league game in March. There are still plenty of games next month with the Champions League last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain and the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, although the first international break of 2025 will rather frustratingly extend the Reds’ wait to secure the title.

The good news, as you can see, is that three of the next five league games are at home, albeit there is a Merseyside derby in there which makes things a little trickier. Nevertheless, the Reds will be looking at that fixture list and expecting to come out of the other side with the title almost within their grasp.
In fact, if they claim five wins out of five, then they will – at the very least – be just two wins away from wrapping things up. If Arsenal continues to falter, it could even be done and dusted after that game at Leicester.
Arsenal
- March 9: Manchester United (A)
- March 16: Chelsea (H)
- April 1: Fulham (H)
- April 5: Everton (A)
- April 12: Brentford (H)
Arsenal’s title challenge looks to be ending in whimper rather than a fight. Even with a game in hand, it seems inevitable now that the Gunners’ hopes of catching Liverpool are over.
And given they’ve now gone two games without scoring, even a trip to a very poor United side looks as though it could hold some peril for Arteta’s men. Drop more points at Old Trafford, and we can probably say this contest is over.
Things don’t look easy for Arsenal over the next few games. They do have the advantage of facing Chelsea and Fulham at home, but both teams are more than capable of punishing them if they don’t start improving in front of goal.
And a trip to a rejuvenated Everton under David Moyes looks like the exact sort of game that could see the Gunners come unstuck. It really does look as though it might just be a matter of time now before Liverpool’s title is confirmed.
