Black Stars attacker Jordan Ayew is believed to be a frontrunner for the captaincy of the senior national team.
Multiple reports in the local media indicate that Ayew will be handed the captain armband during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar scheduled to come off in March.
The reshuffle was necessitated after first deputy captain Thomas Partey refused to retain the position. Due to this, Alexander Djiku has been named as the first deputy captain.
The reports further stressed that the Ghana FA has enforced a new method in selecting captains, grading long service as the formula.
However, these new changes will take effect from next month (March).
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are slated to face Chad and Madagascar in the Matchday five and six games next month. Ghana will host Chad on March 17, before traveling to square-it-out with Madagascar on March 24.
