The cleanup exercises will be compulsory for all residents of the region
The Ghana Health Service has launched a vaccination program to mitigate the spread of cholera in the Central Region. The program is expected to last a week but is subject to review.
About 300 volunteers have been trained to administer the vaccine in Winneba, while 180 volunteers will be working in Swedru.
In order to sustain the efforts being made to combat the disease, the Central Regional Coordination Council has instituted a monthly cleanup exercise to be held across the region starting from 1st March.
The regional minister, Ekow Panyin, announced that the cleanup exercises will be compulsory for all residents of the region and that all sanitation bylaws will be strictly enforced.
According to him, the coordinating council will not allow any vehicle to move during the cleanup exercise in the region.
He says he will do his best to deal with the cholera outbreak from the Region by introducing Healthy environmental policy across the Districts.
