The unidentified Youths vandalized the chief palace, and two cars belonging to the new chief
Head of the Gomoa Obuasi Asona Royal family, Agya Amoh, was stoned and in critical condition, while five others were also injured and receiving treatment at Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital after some angry youths of Gomoa Obuasi attacked the Chief of Gomoa Obuasi, vandalized Chief Palace, and stole two cars belonging to the chief.
Gomoa Obuasi is a farming community with a population of over 7,000 but has had a chieftaincy dispute for the past 5 years until Nananom of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council stepped in and installed a new chief.
Today, the newly installed Chief of Gomoa Obuasi, Nana Mbir Asomako, and his elders were having a family meeting at the Chief Palace when some youth allegedly belonging to the other side mobilized some youth and stoned the Chief and his elders, leaving six people seriously injured.
Sources within the police indicate that the Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Obremong Nyanful Akrampah, in consultation with Gomoa Obuasi authorities, appointed One Kwabena Atta as acting chief of the community until they installed a new chief after the main chief died some years ago, but after installing the chief, the regent failed to hand over power to the new chief, which led to the fight.
The unidentified Youths vandalized the chief palace, and two cars belonging to the new chief, Nana Mbir Asomako, and also assaulted some family members, including the head of the family.
Speaking to GHOne News Yaw Boagyan, the Chief of Gomoa Obuasi, Nana Mbir Asomako (ix) said the unidentified youth stomped them for over three hours before they managed to escape from the palace to Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command.
Nana Mbir Asomako said the group sprayed the chief palace with Petrol and nearly set them ablaze.
Nana Mbir Asomako called on the IGP to beef up security in Gomoa Obuasi and alleged that is the same person Kwabena Atta who mobilized the same youth and destroyed Gomoa Obuasi police station some months ago after an Okada rider was beheaded in one of the villages.
