Manchester United target Victor Osimhen looks a step closer to making a £62million move to Old Trafford, with reports concluding a deal for the striker to join Ruben Amorim’s hungry side is “95%” done.

Amorim is after a new focal point for his Red Devils attack with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee so far struggling to meet the goal-scoring demands needed for success in the Premier League, while also looking to secure more talent for his side.

Another overhaul of the Old Trafford squad looks certain in the summer for Amorim’s side, who have failed to properly adapt to his preferred 3-4-3 formation since his arrival, leaving them a shocking 15th place in the Premier League table after 26 games.

A move to the English top flight for Nigerian Osimhen, 26, has been on the cards for some time, especially after he fell out of favour with his club Napoli and was sent on a season-long loan to Galatasaray in early September.

And it seems he might be open to joining United, after he was tagged in a social media post with United fan and social media star ‘Trey’, who posted a video laughing and joking with Osimhen with the caption: “POV: You convinced Victor Osimhen to sign for Man United”.

Reports from Osimhen’s homeland also suggest a deal in the summer could be close, with journalist Anthony Nlebem of Business Day saying the move is “95% complete”.

The report says United will trigger the release clause in Osimhen’s contract with Serie A side Napoli once his loan deal in Turkey is over.

Osimhen has been in sensation form for Galatasaray, netting 20 goals in 26 appearances so far this season, giving him 96 goals in 159 appearances for his newest side and Napoli combined.

In contrast, this season Hojlund has a mere seven goals in 33 games for United, while Zirkzee has managed only five in 38.

His desire to play in the Premier League is no secret. “Of course, one day I’d like to play for a big club in England,” he said in 2020. “I’ve spoken to Odion [Ighalo] about it. He gave me very good advice, he’s a legend and a big brother.

“My goal is to play at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
