University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate Launches 18-Team Corporate Football League

Through the efforts of the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, a Corporate Football League has commenced, bringing together 18 corporate and institutional teams to compete for bragging rights and an enviable trophy over a 20-week tournament.
At the official launch and balloting ceremony, Director of Sports and Wellness, Dr. Austin Luguterah, announced that the initiative goes beyond just a sporting competition, aligning with the University’s fourth Strategic Priority, which promotes engagement and partnerships.
Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, expressed gratitude to partners and sponsors for their support while stating that the tournament aims to promote a culture of collaboration, teamwork and mutual respect. Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams (MP for Buem Constituency), who officially launched the tournament, highlighted its role in promoting public health, workplace productivity and national unity. He commended the collaboration between academia and the corporate world, noting that such initiatives help bridge the gap for students transitioning into the workforce.
The 18 teams have been drawn into two groups (A and B), with nine teams in each group, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive tournament. The games will take place every Friday at the UG Stadium and are open to all to attend.
