George Opare Addo, the Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his readiness to resign from his position if President John Mahama requests it.
Known as Pablo, Opare Addo also serves as the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment. He noted that it’s not uncommon for someone in a national party role to also hold a ministerial position.
“I will resign any day the President asks me to. I’m not the first national officer to take on a ministerial role. For instance, when Hon. Haruna Iddrisu was the Communication Minister, he continued as the National Youth Organiser until a new person was elected during our Congress in Tamale,” he shared during an interview on Citi FM.
While he is open to stepping down if needed, Opare Addo remains confident in his ability to manage both responsibilities. He emphasized his commitment to serving Ghana’s youth while fulfilling his obligations within the NDC.
“I believe I can handle it. If it ever becomes overwhelming, I will step aside, but for now, I’m managing just fine,” he remarked.
Opare Addo was first elected as the NDC’s Youth Organiser in 2019 and successfully re-elected in 2022. Since taking office, he has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at youth development.
He continues to support President Mahama’s vision and is focused on advancing the interests of young people in Ghana.
His comments come as political conversations intensify in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, with many observing the influence of youth leaders on the future of Ghanaian politics.
