Liverpool transfer news as Real Madrid asks Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘favor’ and $94M star contacted

Liverpool looks to be on track to lift the Premier League title this season. Already though, there are some suggestions about how the Reds can improve for next season.

Arne Slot is on course to win the title in his first year on Merseyside, which is a remarkable feat in itself. It’s made all the more impressive when you consider he’s only had one new player added to his squad since his arrival.

There can be little doubt, though, that Liverpool needs to make some new signings in the summer – especially if Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah are to move on. Plenty of names are already being linked with a switch to Anfield.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including the latest on Alexander-Arnold, and a potential successor to Van Dijk.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Real Madrid already has a summer agreement in place for Alexander-Arnold, according to Spanish outlet Real Madrid Confidencial. However, the La Liga giant may need to ask Liverpool for a favor first.

It’s claimed that Real will follow the same plan it has used with previous free agent signings, including Kylian Mbappe and David Alaba, meaning it will hold off on any announcements until the end of the season out of respect to Liverpool.

The new Liverpool home shirt for the 2024/2025 season features a chrome yellow pattern design and is a modern take on the legendary ’84 home shirt – a season which saw the Reds become European Champions for the fourth time in Rome and the first English Club to win a treble of major honours. However, it’s also suggested that the Reds may be asked to release Alexander-Arnold from his contract early so that he can join up with his new teammates. Los Blancos will be involved in the revamped Club World Cup, which begins on June 14 – two weeks before the right-back’s contract at Anfield expires.

Liverpool.com says: If Alexander-Arnold is going to head to Madrid – and it looks increasingly likely that he will – then there is probably no use in Liverpool keeping him any longer than he’s needed. What’s more, it might even help Liverpool speed things up somewhat in the search for a new signing to replace him.

Castello Lukeba (RB Leipzig)

Liverpool has made contact for the potential signing of RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, according to Sky Sports in Switzerland. It’s suggested that the Reds, along with Manchester United and Chelsea, have had scouts keeping an eye on the 22-year-old, with “positive reports” being sent back.

What’s more, contact is already said to have been established with all three clubs, although they will have to fork out a large amount to secure his signing. Lukeba is reported to have a release clause of nearly $94 million (€90M) in his contract, which could make things more difficult.
