Former Presidential Staffer under Akufo Addo, Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei has criticised some New Patriotic Party communicators for choosing to appear on media platforms perceived as hostile to the party, despite the existence of pro-NPP stations like NET2 TV and Wontumi TV.
In a Facebook post, Newton-Offei expressed concerns that certain NPP communicators prioritize media houses such as TV3, even when they are not given the freedom to express themselves fully. He observed that some party members seem more interested in presenting themselves in well-tailored suits and polished accents rather than supporting media houses aligned with the New Patriotic Party.
He also noted that following the party’s boycott of TV3, some communicators have abandoned their roles rather than shifting their focus to pro-NPP networks. He argued that shifting their focus on pro-NPP stations would have reignited their fire, but their focus on TV3 has weakened the party’s media influence while the ruling National Democratic Congress continues to strengthen its communication strategy through platforms like Woezor TV.
“Our NPP leaders and official party communicators are rather happy to appear on atrociously hostile and maliciously jaundiced media platforms.
Indeed, the’re NPP official communicators who have laid down their tools, literally, because the party has boycotted TV3 Ghana, when Net2TVGH is there. Our people are comfortable on platforms where they can appear in 3-piece suits with beautiful accents, even when they’re not allowed to freely flow.” He wrote.
Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) actively support its media allies, ensuring that they provide extensive coverage of party activities. He urged the New Patriotic Party to reassess its media strategy,. prioritise its own platforms, and encourage its communicators to utilise friendly networks rather than relying on perceived hostile platforms where they will not be given the opportunity to express themselves and pass the party’s message to Ghanaians.
