A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has expressed his deep disappointment in some appointees of the former NPP government for failing to assist his son in securing employment while they were in power, despite his dedicated contributions to the party.

Speaking on Wontumi TV on Monday, February 24, 2025, the legal practitioner shared his frustrations over his son’s unemployment status, despite holding a master’s degree from India.

According to the NPP stalwart, several appointees of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who held positions in various institutions and ministries, failed to assist his son in securing employment, despite having the authority to do so.

“… When my son returned from India after completing his master’s degree in computer science, I visited about six ministries, often meeting with sector ministers, yet he is still at home unemployed,” he said.

The former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP further recalled the responses he received in his efforts to secure a job for his son, noting that most appointees simply asked him to leave the necessary documents behind, only for him to receive no follow-ups or responses.

“When you approach these ministers, they simply ask you to leave a document behind. We also visited ECG and VRA, but they all gave the same response, telling us to return later. It is unbelievable,” he recalled.

He lamented the attitude of many former appointees, criticising what he perceived as their selfishness and unwillingness to support fellow party members.

However, he commended members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their strong sense of unity and support for one another when in power.

He added that NDC ministers would readily help secure a job for his son, unlike his own party, which has failed to do so.

“There are many NDC ministers who would assist my son if I submitted his CV to them. You approach a well-known figure at SSNIT — someone who knows you well and wouldn’t have secured their position if the NPP hadn’t come to power — yet they look you in the face and say, ‘You will hear from me later.’ Ironically, today, that person has been dismissed by the NDC,” he concluded.

Obiri Boahen is the latest NPP figure to criticise the party for its failure to support its own members, despite being in power for eight years.

It will be recalled that the former Vice Chairman of the NPP, Omari Wadie, lamented that three of his children, who completed school when his own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was in power failed to secure jobs.

According to him, he was turned down several times and was ultimately denied jobs for his children after approaching multiple appointees of his government.

Speaking on Top Radio, Omari Wadie said he was repeatedly told there were no available jobs whenever he sought employment opportunities for his children.

“Me of all people, after the massive campaign that I did all over the place for the NPP to win election and come to power, up till now my children who have completed school are still home jobless. My children completed school under NPP but they still don’t have jobs. Whenever I visited a CEO looking for jobs for my children, I was always met with the refrain ‘there are no jobs here.’ Go and apply online, we did all of that, but yet my children were never employed. As former National Vice Chairman, my children didn’t get a job to do when my party was in power,” he lamented.
