The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly referred to as Nana B, has condemned the manner in which the former Deputy Director of Operations of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Kwaku Ohene Gyan, was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, February 24, 2025, he stated that while investigations are necessary, the approach used was regrettable.
“We welcome the investigations; however, the nature and style of the arrest are most unfortunate. I think the country should move forward. What stops them from inviting the former NSS boss to their office for investigations? Imagine being home with your wife and kids, and then two pick-ups suddenly enter your premises. I wonder if he is a terrorist or an armed robber. It is most unfortunate,” he lamented.
According to reports, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, two pickup vehicles trailed Kwaku Ohene Gyan, popularly known as Osonoba, from town, and after arresting him, they sped off toward the NIB Headquarters.
Although the specific reasons for his detention remain unclear, the NSS has been under scrutiny following reports of payroll irregularities, including ghost names scandal.
A recent headcount of active National Service Personnel, conducted by the Ministry of Finance to clear allowance arrears dating back to August 2024, uncovered significant discrepancies.
Following the verification exercise, GH₵226,019,224 was released for payments to 98,145 personnel, far below the 180,030 names initially submitted by the previous management.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a probe into the matter and directed the new leadership of the NSS to implement urgent reforms to prevent future fraudulent activities.
