Former Deputy Director in Charge of Operations at the National Service Authority (NSA), Kwaku Ohene Gyan, also known as Osonoba, was detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on February 22, 2025.

According to MyNewsGH, two pickup vehicles trailed the former Akufo-Addo appointee from town, and after arresting him, they sped off toward the NIB Headquarters.

The reason for his arrest remains unclear, but it may be linked to the ongoing investigations into the NSA scandal, which involves allegations of ghost names being fraudulently added to the payroll.

As of midday on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Ohene Gyan was still undergoing interrogation by NIB officials.

President John Dramani Mahama had directed the NIB to investigate the NSA’s operations after 81,885 suspected ghost names were discovered on its payroll.

A February 12, 2025, press statement from the presidency noted that the discrepancies were identified following a headcount of active National Service personnel, initiated by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

The Finance Ministry subsequently released GH¢226,019,224 to settle allowance arrears for 98,145 actual National Service personnel.

In response, President Mahama has tasked the new NSA management with implementing urgent reforms to prevent ghost names from appearing on the payroll.
