The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has emphatically stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has no regrets about revoking the appointments made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in its final days.

Before the end of his tenure, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed several individuals to government positions.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on February 21, 2025, regarding the revocation of these appointments, Ayariga recalled that during the transition, the NDC had urged the outgoing NPP government not to make further recruitments since they were leaving office.

However, the NPP refused and proceeded with the appointments.

According to Mahama Ayariga, the NPP was directly informed that the NDC would revoke the recruitments if they went ahead with them, and he believes they must now face the consequences of their actions.

“Mr. Speaker, the second issue is about recruitment. I believe we discussed this matter last week, and I made our position very clear. During the transition team meetings, we called on the government at the time not to carry out those recruitments.

“However, we were told directly that they would proceed. We made it clear that if they went ahead, we would reverse them. This was publicly stated and well-known,” he said.

Mahama Ayariga added that before leaving office, the NPP had created an economic crisis and was advised against further recruiting to avoid burdening the incoming NDC government with additional financial obligations.

Despite several warnings and attempts to halt the process, the NPP proceeded with the appointments.

He emphasized that this is the primary reason why the NDC government is revoking them, stating, “The reason is simple: you created a difficult financial situation. When leaving office, you should not burden the incoming government with bills they may not be able to afford. Despite our warnings and attempts to stop you, you went ahead with the recruitment.

“That is why this government is reversing those recruitments. We told you, we warned you, we cautioned you, and you refused to listen. You insisted and carried out the recruitment. We have no regrets in reversing them,” he stressed.
