The Accra Sports Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Chad on March 17, 2025. The match is a crucial fixture in Ghana’s qualification campaign as they aim for a spot in the next World Cup.
The decision to host the game in Accra comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew its approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in September 2024. CAF cited technical infractions, including an unsuitable playing field, as the reason for its decision. This led the National Sports Authority (NSA) to look for an alternative venue.
To prepare for the match, the NSA engaged Green Grass Technology to improve the pitch conditions at the Accra Sports Stadium. The rehabilitation process lasted three months, focusing on enhancing the playing surface and meeting CAF standards. Following the upgrades, the stadium was reinstated as the primary venue for Ghana’s home matches.
The Black Stars, Ghana’s national team, are expected to put up a strong performance against Chad as they seek to secure valuable points in their qualification campaign. The game will also provide an opportunity for fans to rally behind the team in a familiar setting.
With the Accra Sports Stadium ready to host international matches again, the venue is set to provide a competitive atmosphere for this important fixture.
