Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, to ensure fairness and meritocracy in the selection of players for the Black Stars. He warned against favoritism and external interference, stressing that only the most deserving players should be invited to represent the nation.
During a courtesy visit by the minister, Otumfuo expressed deep concern over the recent decline in the team’s performance, attributing it to biased player call-ups.
“The Black Stars have been disappointing lately. You must get them back on the winning track,” he stated.
He emphasized that the technical team should have full control over selection, ensuring that performance and skill remain the only criteria.
“Make sure only deserving players are invited. No one else should have a say in team selection,” he cautioned.
Otumfuo’s remarks come ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar next month, as fans hope for a revival in the team’s fortunes under the new minister’s leadership.
