Park Kyongsig, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, at the Ministry of Health in Accra on Febraury 19, 2025.

The visit was part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in healthcare infrastructure, medical training, and health management at the district and sub-district levels.

Ambassador Park Kyongsig reaffirmed Korea’s long-standing commitment to supporting Ghana’s healthcare development, particularly in areas such as maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and capacity building for healthcare workers.

“Korea is dedicated to strengthening Ghana’s health systems to ensure accessible and efficient medical services for all citizens,” Ambassador Park stated during the meeting.

Accompanying the Ambassador were representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH).

These organizations play a crucial role in implementing various healthcare projects in Ghana, focusing on infrastructure development, medical equipment provision, and specialized training programs.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh welcomed the Ambassador and acknowledged Korea’s support in advancing Ghana’s health sector.

He emphasized the significance of past and ongoing collaborative projects and outlined key policy priorities under the John Mahama administration.

These priorities include the establishment of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, the provision of free primary healthcare, and the construction of regional hospitals in the newly created regions.

The minister also highlighted the need for continued investment in Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facilities, emergency medical services, and hospital infrastructure upgrades.

He expressed appreciation for KOICA and KOFIH’s contributions in these areas and their commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system.

During the meeting, KOICA and KOFIH representatives presented updates on their ongoing projects in Ghana.

They reiterated their dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery by constructing modern medical facilities, supplying essential medical equipment, and offering training programs tailored to local healthcare practitioners.
