The Ghana Premier League club Bechem United has announced a significant step to address violence in football by offering a GH¢100,000 reward to anyone who can provide substantial information leading to the capture of the individual responsible for the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, famously known as Nana Pooley.

This decision stems from a growing concern over hooliganism within the sport, and Bechem United hopes this incentive will aid in apprehending the perpetrator.

The poignant decision was further fueled by concerns from the club’s team doctor, Dr Achau, whose family is urging him to avoid away games due to safety worries. This highlights the broader issue of security fears impacting those involved in the sport.

In recent developments, Asante Kotoko’s Communication Director, Sarfo Duku, disclosed that law enforcement officials have identified the culprit behind the fatal stabbing.

The suspect, known as Brimah, has yet to be apprehended. Witnesses involved in the investigation have consistently testified that Brimah was indeed the one who carried out the attack on Pooley.

In the wake of this tragic event, Asante Kotoko has been taking cautious steps. Although they resumed training on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – they have clarified via a press statement on Tuesday, February 18, that their training sessions are solely for maintaining fitness.

The club has decided to refrain from participating in competitive matches until robust security protocols are instituted to protect the teams and fans, ensuring a safer environment for all involved in the league.
