Julian Opuni, the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, has encouraged small and medium-scale businesses, as well as other members of the public, to embrace the call to save their money with credible banks.

He explained that saving with banks enhances financial security while promoting a strong savings culture that helps create wealth and alleviate poverty.

“Any small amount is a good start when it comes to savings; it helps an individual remain optimistic about their financial future,” he added.

Opuni stated that it was unfortunate that most Ghanaians still preferred keeping their money with them or in their stores, rather than saving it with a financial institution, which often led to anxiety and depression.

Opuni made these remarks at a Media Forum organized by Fidelity Bank for selected journalists from the Western and Central Regions in Takoradi, on the topic “Building a Sustainable Future Together.”

He emphasized the need for financial institutions to increase public education on the benefits of a sustainable savings culture to positively influence perceptions among the Ghanaian populace.

Opuni highlighted that Fidelity Bank, a wholly Ghanaian bank, has been in operation since 2006, with over 8,000 agents providing excellent customer experiences to its numerous clients.

The Fidelity boss stressed the importance of a strong media partnership in achieving increased public education.

Opuni agreed with the suggestion that workshops on financial reporting and banking issues should be frequently organized for the media to improve and deepen their understanding of the sector. This would enable them to educate the public on financial inclusion and discipline.

He explained that as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the bank had resolved to focus on youth employment, health, education, and agriculture, supporting projects and grants to build businesses, provide funding to build schools, and more.
