Manchester United’s cursed season had one ray of hope, but that was extinguished on the eve of their clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Amad Diallo’s form under Ruben Amorim has been a rare positive in the Portuguese’s tough start to life at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils will have to find a way to navigate the rest of the campaign without the Ivorian forward.

On Saturday, it was reported that Amad had sustained an ankle ligament injury during training and could be sidelined for the rest of the season, with the best-case scenario seeing the 22-year-old out of action for a number of weeks.

Amad addressed his injury in an Instagram post, where he wrote: “Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury.

“I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.”

The Ivorian, who has been a United player since 2021, finally nailed down his place as a first-team regular under Amorim, scoring nine times and assisting seven goals this season in all competitions.

With United’s forward options limited, and strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee out of form, their struggling campaign has been further dented by another major injury issue after Lisandro Martinez was ruled out of the remainder of the campaign with an ACL injury.

Meanwhile, United let Marcus Rashford leave on loan to Aston Villa in January after the Carrington product had been frozen out of the squad by Amorim. After weeks of speculation, Rashford finally moved to Villa Park on deadline day.

The 27-year-old’s loan move includes a £40million buy-option. But Rashford is reportedly wanting to keep his future open, with The Sun reporting that Rashford still wants to join Barcelona after the Catalans had been linked to his signature last month.

Rashford’s entourage held talks with numerous European clubs, including Barcelona, but the La Liga giants failed to push for a deal, seeing sporting director Deco say: “It’s true there was talk of Rashford — but we weren’t desperately looking for a player either.”

Despite this, the article reports that a source said that Rashford isn’t giving up hope of moving to the Nou Camp. They are quoted as saying: “Marcus is confident that if he rediscovers his form at Villa Park and starts bagging goals, Barcelona will revive their interest, especially as a transfer price has been established.

“It’s a huge incentive for him, which is good news for Villa. Now he just needs to get playing and start scoring.”
