‘We made mistakes’ – Jesse Lingard responds to criticism involving Marcus Rashford at Man United

Jesse Lingard is the latest ex-Manchester United player to bite back at criticism of his time at the club.

Not a day goes by without drama at Manchester United. After Jadon Sancho’s “freedom” dig with Marcus Rashford caused controversy, Jesse Lingard has now bitten back at critics.

Sancho has failed to take responsibility for his failure as a United player, implying that he and Rashford were trapped at the club. Sancho’s struggles at Chelsea this season suggest he might want to take a look at himself.

Reports claim that Rashford has distanced himself from Sancho’s dig, and he deserves credit for the way he has handled his exit from the club.

Rashford’s attitude was criticised at United, as have many of the players he was close to, including Sancho, Paul Pogba and Lingard.

Jesse Lingard responds to Man United critics

It has been nearly three years since Lingard left United after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

Lingard was spotted training in Manchester recently, but he is currently playing for FC Seoul in South Korea ever since his move there in 2024.

Lingard is happy in South Korea, but he has continued to follow United. On Wednesday afternoon, he responded to social media posts criticising him and his former teammates.

After one fan posted: “Him, Pogba and Rashford destroyed the culture even Rooney admitted. He was let have his own culture with those other 2 vultures after Sir Alex left,” Lingard replied: “Please explain how me Paul and Marcus destroyed Manchester United’s culture?”

In a separate reply, Lingard added: “Lool we were just enjoying our life we played for biggest club in the world of course we made mistakes and we learn but we gonna have fun and smile and dance”.

How Jesse Lingard has fared since leaving Man United

Like Rashford, Lingard joined United at the age of seven, and he progressed all the way through the academy before bursting into the first team.

Lingard spent 11 years in United’s first team, which included loan spells at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton, Derby County and West Ham before he left as a free agent.

After one season at Nottingham Forest, Lingard moved to South Korea and has become a regular starter in Seoul.

Lingard has even captained FC Seoul as the Korean side ended up finishing fourth in their 2024 campaign.

In his 26 appearances for the club, he has scored six goals and made three assists. The K League begins again on Saturday, 15th February.
