A former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Sam Okudzeto, has voiced strong support for the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, amid ongoing speculations about his possible removal.

According to Sam, the current IGP stands out as one of the most disciplined and principled leaders the country has had since independence.

“If there had been any person who is level-headed and strict to do the right thing, it is the current IGP, Dr. Dampare,” Okudzeto remarked in a video shared on YouTube by TV3 on February 11, 2025.

He further challenged Dampare’s critics to present concrete evidence of wrongdoing, questioning the basis of the allegations.

“What allegations have they brought against him? What has he done wrong? ” Okudzeto asked, concerning recent criticisms of the IGP’s handling of security matters.

He criticised the frequent changes in leadership that often accompany political transitions, arguing that such practices hinder the country’s progress.

“We cannot have continuity in the country like that. It makes no sense,” he added, emphasising the need for stability in key national institutions.

Sam Okudzeto suggested that internal lobbying within the police force could be a significant factor behind the calls for Dampare’s removal.

“When you know the nuances, you find out that there are people even within his own outfit who are lobbying for that position. And that’s why they agitate the politicians,” he claimed.
